Foreign Income and ZAR Conversion Notes
A record guide for South Africans who earn in USD, EUR, GBP, or platform balances and need clearer notes around exchange rates, fees, and rand receipts.
Who this helps
Remote workers and platform earners
Foreign income records need a clear money trail. Keep the original currency amount, platform fee, provider conversion, exchange-rate note, and rand amount received together. The goal is to preserve context for review rather than invent a number later.
Why this matters
Foreign-currency income can look different across the platform, payment provider, and bank statement. Without notes, it becomes hard to understand fees, exchange differences, and timing.
Use this when
- You earn from international clients or platforms.
- Your platform shows income in USD, EUR, GBP, or another currency.
- You receive local bank deposits after PayPal, Payoneer, Wise, or another provider handles the conversion.
Fields to keep
- Original income amount and currency
- Platform fee and payment provider fee
- Exchange rate or conversion reference used by the provider
- Rand amount received and bank deposit date
- Statement, invoice, or payout proof
- Timing difference between earning, withdrawal, and receipt
Monthly workflow
- Record the original currency amount before conversion.
- Save the platform and provider statement for each payout.
- Record the rand amount actually received in the bank.
- Note any fees or exchange-rate differences clearly.
- Keep foreign income rows separate enough to review later.
Warning signs
- You only save the South African bank deposit and lose the original platform amount.
- You cannot explain why the platform balance and bank receipt differ.
- You mix several payouts into one bank deposit without a breakdown.
