Print on Demand Guide

Archived quick reference

This older page has been retired from the public guide index

This older page was shorter than the current EarnSouthAfrica quality bar. It is kept for old bookmarks, but we now point readers to stronger, maintained pages instead of serving a thin guide as if it were complete.

Print on Demand platforms let you sell custom products without inventory. This guide covers how South Africans can use them effectively.

How to Start

Sign up at Printful or Printify. Connect your Etsy or Shopify store. Upload designs, set your markup, and publish listings. When orders come in, the provider fulfils automatically.

Printful vs Printify

Printful: all-in-one, simpler, higher base cost. Printify: connects to multiple printers, often lower costs, more setup. See our Printful vs Printify comparison.

Marketplaces

Redbubble and TeePublic: upload designs, they handle everything. Lower margins, zero setup. Good for passive income.

How to Withdraw in South Africa

Your store (Etsy, Shopify) or marketplace (Redbubble) pays you. Use PayPal or Payoneer, then withdraw to your SA bank in ZAR.

Taxes

POD platforms don't handle tax. Declare to SARS. Keep records in ZAR. See our tax guide.

Common Mistakes

Generic designs, underpricing, no marketing, ignoring product quality, copyright violations, not tracking earnings.
