Upwork Requirements South Africa

This older page has been retired from the public guide index
This older page was shorter than the current EarnSouthAfrica quality bar. It is kept for old bookmarks, but we now point readers to stronger, maintained pages instead of serving a thin guide as if it were complete.
To work on Upwork from South Africa, you need a few things in place.
Upwork Account
Create a free account at upwork.com. Use email or sign in with Google. Choose a professional title—it appears in search results.
Skills
You must be able to deliver the service you offer. Upwork doesn't verify skills, but clients will. Add up to 15 skills. Take skill tests to strengthen your profile.
Payment Method
Upwork payout methods can include Payoneer, PayPal, and Direct to Local Bank depending on your account and location. Upwork's help page lists South Africa (ZAR) as a supported Direct to Local Bank currency option, so check your current withdrawal screen before choosing a method.
ID Verification
Upwork may request ID for verification. Have your SA ID or passport ready.
Connects
You need Connects to submit proposals. New freelancers get free Connects monthly. Buy more if you run out.
