Getting your Upwork earnings into your South African bank account is straightforward. Here's how it works.

Clearance Period

Funds are held for 5 days after work is submitted (or when the client approves). For hourly contracts, payment is automatic after the client's review period.

Payoneer

Payoneer is the most common method for SA. Sign up at payoneer.com, link your Payoneer account to Upwork in Settings > Get Paid, then withdraw to your SA bank. Payoneer converts USD to ZAR. Minimum withdrawal is typically $100.

Direct Bank Transfer

Upwork may offer direct to local bank in some regions. Check Upwork's payment options for South Africa.

Timing

After clearance, withdrawal to Payoneer is usually instant. Payoneer to your SA bank can take 1–3 business days.
