Uber driver earnings in South Africa vary significantly by city. Here's what to expect.

Johannesburg

JHB offers the highest demand and earnings: R20,000–R30,000/month for full-time drivers. Peak hours: weekday commutes (6–9am, 5–8pm) and weekend nights.

Cape Town

Cape Town drivers earn R18,000–R28,000/month. Tourism and events drive demand. Be aware of safety concerns—see our safety guide.

Pretoria

Pretoria: R18,000–R26,000/month. Strong demand from government workers and students.

Durban

Durban: R15,000–R22,000/month. Slightly lower than JHB/CPT but still viable.

Factors Affecting Earnings

Hours worked, peak vs off-peak driving, surge pricing, and vehicle type all affect income. See our full earnings report and calculator.
