Affiliate Marketing Tax South Africa: SARS & Foreign Income

This quick-reference page is kept for older links. For the most complete guidance, start with our main side-hustle guides or browse the latest blog articles.

Affiliate programs do not handle tax for you. As a South African affiliate, you are responsible for reporting your income to SARS.

Foreign Income

Earnings from Amazon, ClickBank, and similar programs are foreign income. SARS requires you to declare all income, including from overseas. Keep records in ZAR and note exchange rates.

Takealot

Pays in ZAR—still declare as income. Same tax obligations apply.

Record-Keeping

Keep a spreadsheet of commissions, dates, programs, and exchange rates. Request earnings statements from each program for SARS if needed.

Provisional Tax

If you earn above the threshold, you may need to register for provisional tax and pay twice yearly. Consult a tax practitioner.

Deductions

You may deduct business expenses: hosting, domain, tools, marketing. A tax professional can advise on what qualifies.

PayPal / Payoneer

These platforms may report to SARS in certain cases. Retain all statements for your records.
